I haven’t picked up my camera in quite a while. I constantly think to myself that I need to start taking my camera around with me again but I never end up doing it. I just need to start journaling again and maybe I will start having ideas. For now, just a couple of camera phone images… Haha

I am itching to move…. I’m going on a year and a half of living in this place and I have not lived in the same dwelling for more than a year since I was 19. This is also my first time living in an apartment and my first time living without roommates. I miss having a house with a yard and a front porch where I can put my carved pumpkins. I miss coming home to a house where I can admire light peeking through windows, and being able to take pictures in my yard at night without a neighbor seeing me and thinking I’m strange. I really miss my last house… I was living with my best friend, her boyfriend and their child. Kristine and Miguel would come over and I would cook dinner, bake cookies, get drunk and occassionally I would ride bicycles with them. It had a fenced in yard for my dog to play, it was close to downtown and my job. It was very much the best year of my life.

Once it gets close to the end of the year, my mind races and I tend to dwell on those long-gone moments from my past. I have decided to post images from my past. Enjoy.

I did a couple of long-exposure images from my front yard when I lived in Cayce. I hated living there, which is why I only stayed for about 6months before packing my things and leaving one weekend. If I remember correctly, these had an exposure of about 5 mins.

My friend Brana and I decided to take pictures at the old Gallery 701 before it was renovated. We had planned on trespassing, and while scoping out an entry point, we ran into a group of people that were actually being given a tour by the owner of the place. We asked if we could tag along, and they happily allowed us in!

The semester before my first gallery show, I took a portfolio class and I decided to do images of sketchy places in Columbia at night. These were my two favorites of the 10 images I shot.

The show is over! I really enjoyed doing the show, but it was so much work and stress that I’m relieved to be able to relax and not think about it. The show itself went very very well. I’d say there were about 150 people there (give or take), which is right around what I think we prepared for. All of my best friends and the people that I love were there and I went home feeling so overwhelmed. My former professor Kathleen seemed genuinely proud of us, and another professor at USC (Gordon) spoke very kind words to me about my work. It was just an amazing, humbling experience.

Anyway… here’s the meat of the post. Most of the pictures were taken before many of the people came because I borrowed my mom’s point-and-shoot camera, and the battery died after about 10 pictures–obviously not a photographer!

Illusion of Truth, less than a week away!

Okay, I have learned my lesson. If I want to be a professional photographer, I am going to have to just print my photos myself. I would say that I have spent enough time in a darkroom to be able to print something and have it come out (almost) exactly how I want it. This whole digital outsourcing thing—not my cup of tea.

I had my images shipped via 2-day US Mail to my job. After the 5th business day I started panicking and went to the Post Office in search of my images. They cannot be found. I had the tracking number and everything. The USPS claims they left notice that they attempted to deliver my package at 11:31am August 11th, but no one was available to sign for it. Umm. I work at a bank. SOMEONE was there. When the supervisor of the Post Office told me she had no clue where my box was I felt so defeated. I had a panic attack, so I called Eric crying and in need of advice. He had me convinced that I was going to go back up to the Post Office once I got off of work and bang on the doors DEMANDING my work. When I returned to work I walked into my manager’s office and once again started crying. I just KNEW I was going to have to reorder my work and spend so much more money (that I don’t have) getting it overnighted so I could MAYBE have it by Monday.

Thirty minutes after I returned to work, the mail carrier walked in with my box of images.

I can hear the voices of the photo-influential people in my life saying something to me like: ”You put something so important to you in someone else’s hands, when you could have done it yourself with no stress and a better outcome.” Toby DEFINITELY would be upset with me that I didn’t print them myself.

The images look okay/nice though. They’re a little dark, but with all things considered I am just glad I don’t have empty frames going up on the wall next week.

Jenniffer and Travis, wedding.

I finally finished the pictures for the wedding of my two friends, Travis and Jenniffer. I took over 1500 pictures that day, and they are all edited down to about 600 final images. I had such a great time at this wedding and it was, by far, the most work I’ve done in one 12 hour day. Their theme was “The Perfect Pair” which is why you will see pears in many of the pictures. Enjoy!

Yesterday my friends Ashley and Mike got married at a beautiful lake house near the Sandhills Mall out here in Northeast Columbia. I took SO many pictures! So while I am organizing and doing the color correcting for them, here are their engagement photos from a couple months ago that I never uploaded.

Words cannot express how happy I am that these two friends of mine are now married. We all used to work together at Olive Garden. Terry is a great friend of mine that I love sitting around her house drinking wine and dangling our feet in her pool. Kevin used to be our manager at Olive Garden, and he was always my favorite manager because he’s just one cool dude. They’ve been together for a couple of years now, but they are still just as disgustingly cute together as they ever were, and because they both have children from former marriages, they KINDA remind me of the Brady Bunch.

They got married on May 1, 2010 right here in Columbia SC. I didn’t get too many pictures at the actual wedding itself because one of their friends (as a gift) hired a photographer for them… and that guy kept stepping in front of me. But here’s some snapshots anyway

I usually don’t get excited about doing wedding, bridal or engagement photos, but I am really happy with these Bridal portraits I did of my friend Jenniffer. These were taken on the Horseshoe of USC on an extremely hot day. I had sweat pouring down my back and I was in nothing more than a T-shirt and Jeans.
